Yesterday, during a webcast to which we were invited, Matt Skynner-VP Marketing GPG AMD-together with Zvika Greenstein-manager of the department GPU AMD-, presented the family of graphics processors that should respond to competition in recent models GeForce .

The series 4800 AMD is considered new generation and able to define new standards, using the power of calculating class teraflops and use of memories GDDR5. Amongst the present support for Microsoft DirectX 10.1, the acceleration dynamic geometric, the Anti-aliasing, texture filtering, support all’OpenGL 2 and platforms ATI Avivo HD Video and Display, PowerPlay and CrossFireX Multi-GPU , As well as the capacity to perform more instructions per cycle in the pipeline.

In all models of this series the production process is 55nm and see the presence of no less than 965 million transistors for the ATI Radeon HD 4870 and HD 4850, while 666 million for the HD 3870, the clock speed is equal to 750MHz In the first case, in the second 625MHz and 775MHz in the third. Important are also the powers of calculation: always in the same order, the first to arrive well 1.2 TeraFLOPS, the second at 1 TeraFLOPS last stops to 0,497 TeraFLOPS.

It is they who make a comparison with the competition, writing that the ATI Radeon HD 4850 may respond to the segment covered by 512MB GeForce 8800GT/8800GTS, while ATI Radeon HD 4870 is at the level of a GeForce 9800GTX.
